Since the helix angle is large, the cutting efficiency is excellent in a linear filing action as opposed to a reaming action. The shape of a cross section up to a size 40 is square, and size 45 and larger is triangular - similar to reamers. The cutting chips are made by a filing action in the direction of the apex.
